When the character Tyler (Kelvin Harrison Jr.) screams at his father, the Georgian translation doesn’t soften it—it turns his rage into something almost epic, like a line from a Rustaveli poem twisted into a panic attack. For a Georgian viewer, the film’s two-part structure—the first half a hurricane of toxic masculinity and pressure, the second half a quiet meditation on forgiveness—resonates with the country’s own cultural memory. Georgia knows waves: the Black Sea’s sudden storms, the Soviet wave that crashed over Tbilisi, the modern wave of Westernization that pulls young people away from ojakhi (family, ოჯახი).
