If servers are down, server.met is useless. But nodes.dat keeps the network alive.
If your nodes.dat file is outdated or missing, you will likely see a status of or "Firewalled" in the Kad tab, and you won't be able to search for or download files. Common reasons for updating include: emule nodes.dat
