The story follows Dante Graham ( Laz Alonso ), a hip-hop mogul who wants to restore American dominance in the international "Battle of the Year" breakdancing competition. He recruits his friend Jason Blake ( Josh Holloway ), a former basketball coach struggling with personal loss, to whip a "Dream Team" of b-boys into shape. The film is heavily inspired by Benson Lee's 2007 documentary, Planet B-Boy .
