Technically, extracting a CDP file is a process of decompression and decoding. Unlike a standard ZIP file, the CDP format contains specific header information that Trainz uses to identify the KUID (KUID is the unique identifier code for every asset in Trainz).

Overview

When you download a locomotive or a scenery item from a third-party site (such as the Download Station or fan forums), it typically arrives in this format. Under normal circumstances, a user simply drags this file into the game’s installation folder, and the Content Manager unpacks it automatically. However, this automated process assumes you want to install the content immediately and permanently into your database.
