The series begins in 1878 following a botched robbery in Portugal. Brothers flee back to their family estate, "La Quebrada," in their Spanish homeland to start a new life. However, their return is met with immediate hostility from the local cacique, Antonio Lobo , a powerful and authoritarian landowner who exerts absolute control over the town.
